Personal Bio:

Music has always been the main driving force in my life, from the time I took my first music class (Yamaha Music School) at age 5, all the way until my elderly statesman days of today... Singing took center stage as a member of the Philadelphia Boys' Choir (Ages 7-13), and the experience was not only fantastic in providing an early level of stage exposure, but also introduced me to a wide array of magnificent music and composers that allowed for an open-mindedness towards dissonance and experimentation during a time when most kids were being fed a steady staple of Warrant and New Kids (oh the humanity)...

At the same time as my PBC experience, my brothers and I were all taking piano lessons as well... Perhaps as a way to avoid practicing other's music, perhaps just as a natural tendency, I found myself writing my own chords and melodies on the keys rather than the tunes I was supposed to be playing - but as long as I was playing something, what did Mom know, right?? However, my attempts to be lazy quickly turned against me, as I found myself becoming interested in learning more about the art of composition. This led to many courses in high school and college in Musical Theory and Composition, and an inability to think for more than 10 seconds at a time without a tune popping through my head...

Once my singing voice changed (that damn puberty thing!) and I could no longer remain in the choir, my primary musical focus shifted towards the drums as a player and performer, with writing on the piano more of a side project... Joining forces with my brother Chris (an exceptional keyboardist in his own right with the band Echolyn), Finneus Gauge was formed shortly after I graduated college, with myself serving as percussionist/backing vocalist... FG released two albums to national and international acclaim ("More Once More" was named one of the "Top 5 Albums of 1997" by Keyboard Magazine, while "One Inch of the Fall" landed FG recognition as "One of Top Ten Current Progressive Underground" by Guitar World) before dissolving as a unit in 1999...

With the sudden change in musical direction caused by the demise of Finneus Gauge, I found myself writing more and more on keyboard and gravitating away from the drums as my primary instrument... Land of Chocolate was subsequently formed in early 2000, with the release of our debut CD occurring in 2001... however, what started as a part-time project has since evolved into a band that deserves more than just a part-time committment... with that in mind, I left the corporate day job behind, and relocated from Philadelphia to Chapel Hill in order to assemble a more focused and productive unit (it's amazing the difference between living 15 minutes apart and THREE HOURS apart)... The new lineup is absolutely outstanding, and we look forward to the release of our new CD to show you the progress we have made in this short span of time... expect "Regaining the Feel" to hit your doorstep in April 2004!
